You have Jira. So what? Here’s what you’re still missing.

“We already have Jira.”

It’s a common refrain we hear from enterprise leaders when Rally enters the conversation. On the surface, it makes sense: Jira is the tool many teams already know and use to manage their day-to-day work. But here’s the thing: Rally isn’t intended to replace Jira one-for-one, because Rally was never built to be just another team tool.

Rally is built for something bigger.

Rally is designed to give enterprise organizations the structure, visibility, and governance needed to scale Agile across hundreds or thousands of teams. This is something Jira struggles to do without a heavy lift of costly add-ons and complex workarounds. If you're only thinking about Rally as a Jira alternative, you’re missing the point and missing out on the value it brings across your entire organization.

Jira is for teams. Rally is for the business.

Jira is great at helping individual teams track tasks and sprints. But when you’re trying to connect those efforts to strategic outcomes, the cracks start to show. Rally was purpose-built for enterprise-scale Agile. That means Rally does everything Jira does, plus it offers all this:

  • Real-time roll-ups across teams, programs, and portfolios.
  • Built-in support for SAFe and other scaling frameworks.
  • Governance, auditability, and enterprise security out of the box.
  • Automated metrics that actually drive decisions, not vanity dashboards.

This is the kind of foundation you need when you’re managing multi-million-dollar initiatives across global teams. What you don’t need is a marketplace of plugins.

You don’t have to rip and replace

One of the biggest misconceptions is that Rally requires a full migration off Jira. It doesn’t. Many of our most successful customers continue using Jira at the team level, while Rally provides the higher-level visibility, governance, and strategy-to-execution alignment across the business.

With bi-directional integrations, Rally can sync with your Jira instance, giving executives the enterprise insights they need. At the same time, you enable teams to keep working in the tool they know best, which can be Rally, Jira, ADO, or any other team-level tool. Everyone wins.

If you're leading a transformation, Rally changes the game

Enterprise transformation is about more than agile ceremonies and team throughput. It’s about creating alignment, measuring impact, and proving value, without burdening your teams with yet another tool or process.

So next time someone says, “We don’t need Rally, we already have Jira,” ask them these questions:

  • Is Jira showing us which investments are delivering outcomes?
  • Are we really aligning Jira work with our long-term strategy in real time?
  • Are we doing it all without dozens of plug-ins and significant administrative overhead?

If not, it’s time to think bigger.

Rally gives you complete, real-time visibility, from boardroom strategy to team delivery. It connects every investment to measurable outcomes, unites teams around shared priorities, and equips leaders with the insight to pivot fast. That’s how you turn strategy into results you can measure, and that’s the difference between keeping up and leading.
